Picture day has always been and forever will be the most stressful day in a young teenager’s life. For seniors however, photo shoots are scheduled at their own convenience, or in many cases, not at all. A recent survey concludes that the majority of the current senior class at WA has simply forgotten to have their pictures taken in the first place. Despite the yearbook company’s best efforts to send out incessant senior portrait reminders, their information pamphlets have all gotten lost in piles of college spam mail.
When students failed to show up at their prescheduled portrait sessions with the company, the school threatened to put students’ junior year pictures in the yearbook instead. Realizing that these year-old pictures are egregiously misrepresentative of their current senior selves, the class launched a full scale riot. Students rallied for the no picture option, but administration refused to allow it.
One student notes, “If our senior picture will be saved for decades to come, we should have a part in taking the picture. With college applications and fighting the senior slide, who has the time or money to schedule a session with some photographer? They don’t even know my best angles!” In the end, administration realized it was futile to require these students to attend a photoshoot no matter the price or convenience.
In a move condemned by the Overpriced Photographer’s Union, the school ultimately decided to allow selfie submissions. Students may take their own senior portraits on their front facing 3.1 megapixel camera with flash, and even add it to their story on Snapchat. Following this victory, the students now turn to a new concern: picking a filter.
“My yearbook photo just seems so much more, you know, me now,” explained one student. “In twenty years I can look back at this #OOTD selfie and remember a time where I had 2k Instagram followers and posted daily! I might even get a few more followers if I put my username in the yearbook.”
Several students were asked to reconsider their photo choice after submitting a nude.
